Earlier this week, the Department of Homeland Security announced that E-Verify has resumed operations following the government shutdown which commenced on December 22, 2018. The following notice was published on Monday, January 27:
“E-Verify has resumed operations following the lapse in government appropriations. While all E-Verify features and services, including the ability to resolve a Tentative Nonconfirmation (TNC) are now available, employers may experience longer-than-usual processing times as we work through a large volume of accumulated cases. See E-Verify Resumes Operation for more information. Thank you again for your patience and support of the E-Verify Program.”
E-Verify is a United States Department of Homeland Security (DHS) website that allows businesses to determine the eligibility of their employees, both U.S citizens and foreign citizens to work in the U.S. It compares information from an employee’s Employment Eligibility Verification form I-9 to U.S government records. If the information matches, the employee is eligible to work in the U.S. If there is a mismatch, E-Verify alerts the employer and employee.
