KidWorks 12th Annual Christmas Store Event

On Dec 22, 2014

'Tis the season of giving, and in that spirit, the people of the PAYDAY office spent the past couple of nights volunteering at one of KidWorks' annual toy sales located at one of their centers in Santa Ana. KidWorks is an organization founded in 1993 to help the kids living in Santa Ana. Santa Ana has been deemed the hardest place to survive in America by the Nelson A. Rockefeller institute, topping even Compton or Harlem.

PAYDAY KidWorks Toy Drive 1In an effort to help the parents of the children who are a part of the KidWorks organization, they hold an annual toy sale. This year marks the 12th Annual Christmas Store event held by the organization. The toys are all generously donated by supporters of the organization and are sold at just 10-20% of the actual retail value to help the parents give their children the presents they otherwise couldn't afford. The proceeds from the store go into a benevolence fund to help meet some of the emergency needs of the families KidWorks serve during the Christmas season and beyond.

PAYDAY assisted with the Annual Christmas Store event by wrapping all of the gifts as the parents purchased them. It was a fun night and it was great being able to interact with the people who work at KidWorks and learn more about the organization and their great events. The staff at KidWorks are very friendly and gave us insight to what they do and even invited us to look through the stores they have set up for the parents.

Browsing through the different stores, it was amazing to see how much had been donated. We wrapped a wide variety of gifts from giant stuffed animals to skateboards. Admittedly, I am not the best at wrapping presents, but we all worked as a group and learned all of the different techniques of wrapping a present. Every gift wrapped was worth the gratification of seeing the happy smiles of the parents who are able to give their children what they wanted for Christmas.

We would like to extend our gratitude to all of the people who were able to donate a toy in the lobby of our office for this event. KidWorks is always looking for people who are willing to volunteer their efforts to the cause. Please visit their volunteer opportunities page to learn more about how you can help.IMG_83931
